🌿 Empowering Communities from Day One

To mark the first day of the new Lionistic Year, the Lions Club of Ratnapura proudly launched a set of high-impact service initiatives on July 1st, 2025. These projects focused on environmental care and women's empowerment, symbolizing a strong start to a year of service.

Coconut Tree Planting Drive – Held at Karangoda Maha Vidyalaya and nearby households to promote sustainability and green living.
Free Cake Making Training (3 Months) – For 40 mothers in the Elapatha DS Division, creating opportunities for self-employment.
Free Sewing Training (3 Months) – For another 40 mothers in the same area, providing practical skills and economic empowerment.

🦁 Multiple Service Project for Community Wellness & Empowerment

💉 Health & Wellness Services

Qualified professionals and volunteer medical teams provided a range of free health screenings and tests, helping community members access essential care and early detection services:

  • Eye Checkups & Eye Testing

  • Blood Tests and Cholesterol Screening

  • Dental Examinations

  • Tuberculosis (TB) Testing

  • Screening for Socially Transmitted Diseases

These services were aimed at improving health awareness and encouraging preventive care, particularly among underserved populations.

👶 Child Safety Awareness

The Lions Club also conducted interactive education sessions for preschool and school-aged children on topics related to child safety, hygiene, and awareness, empowering them with life-saving knowledge in a fun and engaging format.

🌱 Environmental Action & Women’s Empowerment

As part of the club’s commitment to sustainable living, the event included a distribution of plant saplings to families in the area, encouraging greener, healthier surroundings.

In addition, interviews and evaluations were carried out to identify women candidates for enrollment in upcoming Sewing & Tailoring Training Programs, offering them a pathway to self-employment and economic independence.

This month, in July 2025, he continued his unwavering commitment by distributing 5 essential ration packs, bringing his total contribution to over Rs. 600,000—and touching dozens of lives with compassion and care.

🍄 Mushroom Cultivation Workshop to Empower Families

On July 12th, 2025, the Lions Club of Ratnapura held a hands-on Mushroom Cultivation Workshop aimed at empowering local families through sustainable and home-based income generation.

The workshop was led by Lion Chalani Shamali, a certified instructor and passionate advocate for self-employment. She provided participants with practical knowledge, step-by-step techniques, and inspiration to start their own mushroom-growing businesses at home.

This initiative not only promotes economic development but also aligns with the broader mission of the Lions Club to foster self-sufficiency and community upliftment.
